I need some help here. I am a BIG car buff despite the fact that I am a girl But with these new cars, it is all unfamiliar territory for me - as I love my classics I am a mommy of 2 awesome little guys, one is almost 3 and just graduated to a booster seat, the other is 4 months old. I live in the mountains of Pennsylvania, so I need a 4wd. I am looking at 3 different (used) new cars to buy. The first being a 2006 Jeep Commander, the 2nd a 2005 Nissan Pathfinder SE Off-Road pkg, the 3rd a 2004 Honda Pilot. I LOVE both the looks of the Jeep and Nissan, looked at the reviews and both had a lot of shotty ones. The Pilot had the best reviews, but it looks like something for an older person. Please help! Does anyone have any opinions, input or own any of these?I do not want anything small. I drive a Pontiac Vibe now and no longer fit in it with my kids and all their stuff. Thanks! Lyn

The Pilot, by far, is your best option. You'll have nothing but problems with the Commander, and the Pathfinder will be very 'trucky' for a family vehicle.

I'd go for the Honda, it will last you longer. Rhyme not intentional. If not the Honda then the Nissan, the Japanese are great for build quality. Stay away from the Jeep. Cheap to buy, but there's a reason = cheap nasty build.

Out of those three the Pilot would be the most reliable. I don't know a lot about Pathfinders, but Commanders have gotten very poor reliability ratings and are very thirsty for gas since they're such heavy vehicles. I would go with the Pilot. It may not look the most appealing, but it will be reliable and will hold its value much more than the other two. If you do have your heart set on the Commander make sure you get an extended warranty, as the repairs can get costly, especially if you have any transmission problems (which they have been prone to).
